Mixed Media Inspiration: Lack of Inspiration — writings by Ender

It is not often I repost blogs/links here. I do have invited guest bloggers, but rarely do this. The reason I have is it is an honest, origanal post which I think is worth sharing…it is that simple I’ve found I’ve been lacking inspiration the last few days. It’s common writing practice to linger around until inspiration hits you, but that’s not what I do. It’s not what working writers do; we don’t have the time. In times of an inspiration deficiency I seek three simple pleasures: reading, music, and social interaction. Cover reveal and chance to win

Coming March 15, 2017....Jonathan thinks Cin is too perfect to be real. He’s right. As the top investigative reporter for Global Daily, Jonathan travels all over the world. Three weeks in Tortola, covering the story of the disappearance of twelve women, sounds like heaven. After all, the island is one of the most beautiful in the world. He doesn’t have many leads. The women only have one thing in common. They all went missing from the same club—Consume. Fifteen minutes into visiting the club, Jonathan sees him, and the world slips away. Cinaed, better known as Cin, spots Jonathan the moment he walks through the club’s door. It’s obvious the man is out of place. Cin slips into Jonathan’s mind...

Self-publishing

Is self-publishing really an insult to the written word? Who is Laurie Gough? A random post on my Facebook feed caught my eye today. A fellow author posted about an op-ed piece in The Huffington Post by someone called Laurie Gough. I should say up front that I have no idea who Laurie Gough is […] The post Self-publishing appeared first on PORTALLAS. Original link

Happy New Year!

Thank God that’s over. May this New Year bring you luck and prosperity and immense happiness in all you do in 2017. Happy New Year! Filed under: Odds & Sods Tagged: new year, New Year's Day Original linkOriginal author: Thomas Kelleher

And, as they say in Mexico

EMANDYVES Próspero año nuevo! The Twelve Grapes (Sp. Las doce uvas de la suerte, “The twelve grapes of luck”) is a Spanish tradition that dates back from at least 1895, but became established in 1909. In December of that year, when vine growers popularized this custom to better sell huge amounts of grapes from an excellent harvest. The tradition consists of eating a grape with each strike of the bell at midnight of December 31. According to the tradition, that leads to a year of prosperity. In some areas, it is believed that the tradition wards away witches and general evil, although this “magic” is treated like an old heritage, and in modern days it’s viewed as a cultural tradition to welco...

Review of 2016 and Happy New Year! #2017

newyear2017
2016 is probably the year most people want to forget. With the loss of so much talent in the film and music industry we were left asking ourselves what the hell happened? I can’t say I ever remember a year filled with so much sadness, heartbreak and disbelief. It is the end of the year and I can finally say, “Goodbye 2016. Get lost. Hit the road. You suck!”. This past year has taken me on a journey I certainly won’t forget. From horrible medical issues due to Lyme Disease and Bartonella to a personal journey triggered by a “not so wonderful” relationship. The one thing I have learned from 2016 is…it’s amazing what humans can endure and overcome. I’ve battled through a TIA (mini-stroke), an a...

Review of “Escape from Witchwood Hollow” by Jordan Elizabeth Mierek

Healing from Mass Mourning and Broken Heart Syndrome

email
My friend, priest and spiritual mentor, Father Sonny taught “Grief is the price of love. We grieve as deeply as we have loved.” Anyone who has lost a loved one is painfully aware of the truth of this statement. But what about grieving for those we didn’t know personally? Is that real grief? Every year we lose celebrities and 2016 has been no exception. The world lost household names like Natalie Cole, David Bowie, Merle Haggard, Prince, Arnold Palmer, Florence Henderson and George Michael to name just a few. Yet the deaths of Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds bring home to all of us the devastation of grief. Who couldn’t admire Carrie Fisher as the courageous and swashbuckling Princess Leia ...

Quote Of The Day – Jules Verne

jules-verne-quote-2
In light of the coming new year I thought today’s Quote of the Day was particularly relevant as we look ahead to 2017 with hopes and dreams of a kinder, gentler, less turbulent and tumultuous twelve months. You can’t call yourself a nerd and not be familiar with the works of Jules Verne  (1828 – 1905); a French novelist, poet and playwright who wrote a number of highly imaginative adventure novels for their time, and was often referred to as the “Father of Science Fiction” and one of the founders of the genre (along with H.G. Wells and Mary Shelley and a few others). He is best known for writing Journey to the Center of the Earth, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, and Around The World i...

Steamy windows (All about the writers muse)

8658849_orig

I was silently musing, as is my bent, when a certain thought kept returning. No matter how many times I dismissed the notion it would not leave me alone; eventually waking me in the early hours with its persistent nagging.

I guess all writers, at least those of us who are serious about our craft, have such occasions?

Personally, I find the only way to rid such daemons is to submit to their will, writing about whatever it is which plagues the mind.
