The Voice of Spring-(A poem)

Spring’s Voice Spring pulled me aside to gossip about winter. She blew in my ear, gave me chills, made me grab my jacket. Pointing out the brittle leaves, complaining about the frost, she even whispered the truth about the bulbs. ‘They won’t be coming up.’ Her erratic laughter echoed in a layer of fog. Daunting, wet words drenched my path with rain. ‘Be still,” I said. ‘I can’t,’ she replied. ‘Show me your buds, Let me hear the birds. Better yet, tell me about summer.’ The branches swayed, a swoosh of mist filled the air. ‘You’ll miss me when I’m gone.’ I ran for the house, As a storm approached. ‘Yes, I will. I’ll miss every cool breath of wind howling under the window, distant rolls of thu...

The Dark Room

It is very dark. Unseen images hanging on dark strips of undeveloped film. My daughter carefully puts them into a tray of developer.  Images take shape. Pictures of a newborn daughter. If something had gone wrong, we would never get that print to hang on the wall to cherish forever…. All from a dark womb. Where first fetal movements are felt and even the sound of a thump? The mother is every second aware that she is the center of a miracle.  Life before death.  Created by Love and its powerful attraction.  Love is very often one’s first introduction to Truth.   And… Trust. Let the print be printed. Let the miracle be born. A life ahead to discover the miracles and beauty of life and… self… W...

Could Frmr.Vice President Joe Biden's Recent Behavior Confirm That We Need To Make Self-Care a Priority?

We don't have to be everything to everyone. It's high time we look inside and clear out all the gunk so we can think with clarity, listen effectively and speak purposefully. Often times we overload our lives with agenda's geared at people pleasing and forget the most important person on earth is to please, self. Wrong Priorities Even With The Best of Intentions A video of Former Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden, 77, surfaced as he gave a very confusing speech in front of a crowd in South Carolina this past Monday. According to Independent.co.uk, the former Vice President is quoted saying, "My name is Joe Biden. I’m a Democratic candidate for the United States Senate. Look me ov...

Advertising Ideas--A Memoir

I remember stepping foot into his office. I’ll call him Jay. He was the first client who yelled at me. Later, much, much later, he warmed up, becoming cordial, but, that first meeting, when I was twenty-three, went something like this: “Hello, I’m from the newspaper.” “Yeah, so?” I wore a dress I had sewn on my mom’s Singer; Kelly green with small white dots over a white, puffy sleeved blouse. In hindsight, I looked like Snow White’s sister. “Thought I’d come by to talk to you about advertising.” At first, he said nothing. Then Jay’s eyes sort of bulged out of his head and he turned red. “What in heaven’s name do you know about advertising? I have owned this dealership for fifty years and yo...

Rissoles from leftovers

We had bought a goose from our local farmer for Christmas but after a surfeit of turkey, couldn't face it. And so it languished in the freezer until last Saturday when friends helped us devour it. Last night was the third day running of finishing the goose, by which time we had had enough! To liven it up a bit and make the leftovers more appetising, I made rissoles: crunchy on the outside, unctuous within. A real delight served with plain boiled potatoes and a purėe of vegetables. Waste not, want not.Photos copyright SvD.Original link

My Favorite Romantic Movies

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I thought you might want some suggestions for a romantic movie. You may have seen all, or most of these, but if not, you can’t go wrong with  some of my favorites. Here's a short list of the best!                                                          💖  So, pick a movie and cuddle up with either your pups, kittens and/or the romantic other, then dive into some kettle corn or chocolate bonbons for an entertaining evening! Who knows, maybe you'll be inspired. (Inspired to love, perhaps to write about it?)😊Original link

A bald mouse

...is the literal translation of the French 'chauve souris' or 'bat' as we call them in English. I found this little chap in a garage. He suddenly dropped at my feet. I picked him up and his fur was so soft! Left the door slightly ajar so his mum could come back for him.Photo copyright SvD.Original link

Three little piggies...

The older I get, the happier really simple things make me. I'm no Meghan Markle, a walk in the countryside looking at some cute piglets playing in the mud is frankly enough for me. Money won't buy you happiness.Photo copyright SvD.Original link

My thoughts on Meghan Markle and Harry

First let me begin by saying that I'm 55. That means that I've been around the block a few times, kissed a few boys, worked hard and paid a truckload of tax, made sacrifices and never really got to live my dreams because life took over. I've had euphoric highs and breathtakingly black lows. I've learned who my friends are and who they aren't. I speak my mind because I have earned the right to tell people to f...k off who encroach on my valuable time and space. Therefore I won't hold back by saying that Meghan Markle is an odious character.I see a lot of my mother in Meghan Markle because they could have been twins. My mother was a narcissist, a dreadfully unpleasant woman who disliked everyo...

Do It in 2020!

Happy New Year to everyone! The idea of an entire year filled with unlimited possibilities stirs the creativity in my heart. There’s so much to do for those who want to do it. Time is in the hands of those who want to help, create and serve. The other humans must wait. They feel time is sluggish. My old boss called them clock-watchers. At five o'clock they'd dash for the door, racing out of the parking lot as if something exciting waited at home. (Though the mannerisms looked exhilarating, these fast-moving coworkers were going home simply to feed their children and pets.)Hopefully, though these type of folks feel the day is taking forever, they are filled with gratitude. Perhaps these indiv...

What to do on a lazy Saturday afternoon?

On Friday night we both fancied pizza and made our way to the local pizzeria. He was so busy he told us to come back in an hour! We left and swore never again. So the next day, I made my own. A doddle. Dough and tomato sauce from scratch. Onions, mushrooms, bacon and ham. A quick dash to the supermarket for mozzarella and voila!Original link

Holiday Greetings from Pinky Claus

Mommy told me to say ho, ho, ho instead of ruff, ruff and ruff. And since the mailman isn’t here yet, I’ll be quiet. Ruff or not, this has been a rough year. Get it? Anyway, she made this silly hat, and thought I should model it for all the world to see. Isn’t that hilarious? I can count her blog followers on one paw. It’s not like she’s some sort of 'influencer'. Do you think I listen to her? Hardly, ever. But it’s the holidays and the area around my heart is filled with gas and something called unconditional love. So, here I am in the hat. (Small shout out to my online friends Agatha and Winston who are probably dying of laughter. Wish we could sniff each other. If you want to meet them cl...

My Intangible Slant on The Twelve Days of Christmas

The original Twelve Days of Christmas is a popular carol written in 1909, by an English composer named Frederic Austin. The song refers to some strange, expensive gifts. I mean why would anyone want seven Lord's a leaping for a Christmas gift, unless they're putting on a show, and need a group of guys to dance in front of the chorus? (Believe it or not, I've been there.) Truthfully, I think it's a unique, annoying song that permeates the holiday season with repetitive lyrics we've heard a gazillion times. So, I changed it up a bit in order to reflect true, intangible love, which is not supposed to be based on high-priced gifts or partridges in a pear tree. (This doesn't mean we don't like gi...

Hodge Podge Casserole

By definition a casserole is a compilation of ingredients cooked slowly to develop the flavours fully. Then there's the other type of casserole known as leftovers plus everything including the kitchensink. We're very conscious of not wasting food and will generally eat leftovers the next day. By the third day however the dogs get lucky. We often make a big batch of Bolognese sauce and freeze portions which can then be transformed into cottage pie, lasagna etc. Last night we used the remains of the day before's cottage pie to make another concoction of sorts with the addition of parsnips, chick peas (of all things) and even leeks. Served the lot with a creamy spinach side dish. Not exactly ha...
