For Halloween, Book Quote Wednesday's Word is FRIGHT

For Book Quote Wednesday, the word is FRIGHT. From ONEY, MY ESCAPE FROM SLAVERY:“Ona, you are in no position to refuse recapture. I shall return with orders to bring you and your child by force.” With a disdainful glance round my home, Mr. Basset's beady eyes narrowed. “Do not dare defy me, girl.” He spat out that last disparaging threat with a turn of his heel as he stomped out. Eyes wide in sleepless fright, I dreaded President Washington's vicious nephew’s return with an army of slave-catchers to drag me and my child from my home, never again to see my beloved husband. getbook.at/OneyJudgeOriginal link

Czech pilots of the RAF

In my last article I explained how the British Prime Minister, Neville Chamberlain, reached an agreement with Hitler in September 1938, an agreement which resulted in Germany annexing the Sudetenland and eventually taking over the whole of Czechoslovakia. There were many brave Czechs who wanted to fight against the Nazis but could not do so once their country had fallen; this article explains what happened to some of them. In the weeks after Germany occupied Czechoslovakia thousands of soldiers and airmen managed to escape the county and joined the French Foreign Legion until the Second World War finally began in September 1939. Czech airmen then transferred to the Armée de l’Air and fought ...

Recommended Read – The Garden of Evening Mists by Tan Twan Eng

The Garden Of Evening Mists
“On a mountain above the clouds, in the central highlands of Malaya lived the man who had been the gardener of the Emperor of Japan.” Teoh Yun Ling was seventeen years old when she first heard about him, but a war would come, and a decade would pass before she travels up to the Garden of Evening Mists to see him, in 1951. A survivor of a brutal Japanese camp, she has spent the last few years helping to prosecute Japanese war criminals. Despite her hatred of the Japanese, she asks the gardener, Nakamura Aritomo, to create a memorial garden for her sister who died in the camp. My Fav Halloween Recipe and Halloween Story

Orb in graveyard at York Village, MaineI do paranormal investigations with a group near where I live, and I attended my very first ghost hunt with them a few nights before Halloween. About ten of us visited Old Dunstable Cemetery where some victims of a 1702 Indian massacre are buried. It’s the oldest cemetery in Nashua, dating back from when the land was part of Massachusetts. The earliest burial dates from 1687. Researchers had found the victims’ names, so we were able to locate their gravestones. The only equipment I had at the time were my dowsing rods and a digital camera. While others in the group made their attempts to contact spirits, I stood before a gravestone that read: this Man, ...

‘Peace for our time’ – the Munich Agreement and the road to war.

sudetenland
80 years ago today Britain, France, Germany, and Italy signed the Munich Agreement allowing Germany to annex the Sudetenland. History records this as a great act of appeasement by British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, and many people feel that if Chamberlain had stood up to Hitler he could possible have prevented the Second World War. But is this true? The Sudetenland was part of the country of Czechoslovakia which had only been created 20 years earlier with the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire at the end of the First World War. The new independent Czechoslovakia was recognised in the Treaty of Versailles, but the world powers who dictated the treaty failed to realise that there...

I'm Evan Cook—billionaire tech entrepreneur and widower. Professionally, I’ve got it all. But since my wife died, my personal life has fallen apart. Remarrying seems like the obvious answer, so I place an ad. I'm not asking for much. The ideal woman only needs to be smart, organized, pretty, and helpful—both in and out of bed—without expecting romance. I never thought to look right in front of me…but it turns out that Nia Wright, my sexy, sassy assistant, just might be the perfect candidate. After an unexpectedly hot night together, I'm ready to stop interviewing strangers and simply marry her. On paper, she ticks every box on my list. Best of all, she's far too sensible to fall for me. I d...

Review: The Bestowing sun by Neil Grimmett

I received the book from the family for an honest review.I was shocked when I learned about the author's passing when they contacted me. I have read two other books from the author which I truly liked. And, without hesitation, I agreed to read this book as well.It has a slow start and I had no idea where it was going since the scenes were all over the place.I really struggled to get into this book, only halfway through the story started to shape enough for me to enjoy the plot.  Sibling rivalry is the main focus, and you learn about each turmoil and reasons for either moving away or staying and the effects that shaped them individually. Not sure what the objective of the story was and I strug...

The Devil is in the Detail

MayaShamanXC
Mayan Shaman or Brujo “The Devil is in the Detail” implies that although something might look simple at first, there is a catch hidden in the details. Often an idea seems wonderful, but turns out impossible to implement. We may be able to agree on generalities, but come to blows on specifics. A project may appear straightforward and easy, but takes more time and effort to carry out than we expected. “The Devil”—our difficulties and challenges—hides in the details. This is the contemporary understanding of the idiom. But, it was not always interpreted this way. Use of the phrase goes back at least to the early 1800s when French writer Gustave Flaubert (1821-1880) said “Le bon Dieu est dans le...

Review of Rae of Hope book 1 in The chronicles of Kerrigan.

Currently FREE ON AMAZONReviewThis young-adult book, the first in the series was a great read. The author's ability to keep your attention right through the book was definitely accomplished. he kept the tension just perfectly to keep you intrigued. The book is fast paced and written very well. The characters were interesting and believable. Rae, the main character, had quite a few obstacles overcome while adapting to a new school. I thought the budding relationship between her and Devon was very sweet and have the promise of something wonderful down the line. The villain was clever and concealed his evil side very well. Never had you an idea that this man was the person behind all her troubles...
